IG Trading Review

Background

IG Trading opened in 1974 as an investment service for gold traders. It embraced new technology to become a respected CFD brokerage that is listed on the London Stock Exchange. IG’s traders have a high tech trading platform, excellent trading tools, and access to over 9,000 assets, as well as some of the forex industry’s most experienced account managers. Although it is a highly professional brokerage, IG welcomes new and inexperienced traders.

Protection & Security

IG has been in business for almost 50 years and has an unbeatable reputation for safeguarding client security. The brokerage is subject to strict oversight, all traders have segregated accounts and investors are covered by statutory compensation schemes. IG trading also makes use of the latest Comodo SSL systems to protect against cyber fraud and identity theft. Account management and customer service at IG are world class.

Global Presence

IG Trading is one of the few truly international CFD brokers. It is popular in the UK, EU, Middle East, East Asia and Africa. Australian, British, Irish, Maltese and Cypriot traders can also trade (non CFD) stocks with IG. The customer service is fully multi-lingual.

Account Types

IG offers a variety of account types and allows deposits from between $300 – $99,900 depending on the payment method used. There is some additional flexibility on minimum deposits, at your account manager’s discretion.

Minimum Deposit – $300

Deposits & Withdrawals

IG has been in operation for almost 50 years and is able to handle deposits and withdrawals of all sizes. They are fast, efficient and don’t penalise traders with unfair fees and commissions. IG generally prefers to work with bank wire transfers or credit/debit cards, but other systems are available.

Deposit

High volume traders are welcome at IG. Even newcomers can deposit up to $99,999 via debit card. Smaller traders can open an account with a minimum of $300 and can usually make smaller subsequent deposits by wire transfer. IG is highly efficient and quite flexible.

Withdrawals

Withdrawals at IG are simple and usually trouble free. Traders have fast access to their profits and there is no pressure to reinvest. IG aims to process all withdrawals in 1 or 2 working days. Bank wire and credit/debit card allows for the fastest withdrawals.

Trading Platforms

IG has both custom platforms and the award-winning MT4 platform. All the platforms are highly functional, user friendly and packed with trading tools and advanced features. These include the usual signals, charts, heatmaps etc. It is easy to customise all the platforms to your personal trading preferences.

Markets & Products

IG Trading offers an astonishing 9,000 assets that cover all major global markets. Traders can open CFD trades on commodities, forex, stocks and some of the biggest cryptocurrencies. There is also an option for traders in some countries to open non-CFD trades and buy the underlying assets.

Edcuation Center

IG Trading encourages clients to use a free demo account in conjunction with their education center. There is a great range of educational resources and learning tools that are geared towards professional level trading. Clients can begin with online trading courses, a video series, webinars and other modules.

Customer Service

IG is one of the very few CFD brokers to provide a full 24/7 customer service. Traders can contact the customer service even when the markets are closed. IG is a UK based brokerage, but there is live support available in some European languages. The service is fast and efficient.

Promotions & Offers

IG has a simple bonus structure, that begins with a welcome bonus worth up to 10K on the demo account. The main promotional offer is an excellent refer a friend scheme that offers some solid rewards. IG is a major brokerage with a lot of liquidity but is not really a bonus orientated company.

Trading Tools & Reaserch

IG provides a good selection of the latest trading tools and features. We were most impressed by the IG Community that connects traders from around the world, allowing them to talk about the markets and share trading strategies and tips. This is potentially a major advantage for traders.

Overall Summary

PLUS:
IG has almost 50 years experience as a financial services provider and is listed on the London Stock exchange. It has a good choice of platforms including MT4 and a huge number of assets. Overall the customer service and account management is excellent and security is good.

MINUS:
Smaller low value trades may be less profitable due to trading fees. IG is primarily a UK brokerage and could add more languages to the site.
